Getting on with planning and preparation

In 2024/25, we have been working closely with the County Council to secure funding from a variety of sources for a comprehensive programme of preparation that will be the basis for detailed design drawings and proposals for difficult sections such as the toll bridge and the roundabouts in Eynsham and Farmoor.
When those proposals are ready, we anticipate the County Council will invite views in a public consultation.
Thanks to the donations we have received, Bike Safe has pioneered an unusual way of working.
Instead of simply putting pressure on the County Council to build the B4044 cycle path we have used our own money to pay for the essential preparation costs.
This includes paying for
a feasibility study at the very start of the campaign by Sustrans;
a detailed topographical survey for the whole length of the path;
environmental impact studies and tree surveys
initial designs for the path and how it links to the road system
consultations with the local community to get their feedback for improvements
All the studies and technical drawings have been shared with Oxfordshire County Council at no charge so that the County Council can put together funding bids (inc. Active Travel) for the construction costs based on detailed and accurate technical information.
